Bid Title : IT Hardware Bid

Subject : Q&A
Question : 1. External tape unit for servers Do you prefer an LTO4 or LTO5 tape mechanism? 2. Backup Software for servers w/tape units Do you have a preferred backup software application?
Answer : 1. We are looking at moving away from tape based backups and instead are requesting solid state solution (redundant or RAID-based hard-drive) based solutions. Because we realize that these solutions range from a couple hundred dollars to a few thousand (e.g. Connectivity via eSATA, Firewire, and FibreChanel and drives running 7200, 10K, 15K, of types SATA and SAS). Thus we are allowing for this bid for the birders to offer us three ( good, better, best) external backup solutions. Any solution offers must be able to work with the servers (e.g. if the solution requires a Fibre-Channel port, then the solution should include the necessary card (installed at no additional cost) for the server.) 2. The bidders may offer any solution that will exceed the backup features that are built into Windows Server 2008. The District has not adopted a single solution at school sites (though we have used VERITAS at the Core for some of our larger enterprise servers). The proposed software solution must allow for scheduling backups using IT standards such as daily, incremental, differential full, and have a mechanism for doing a complete recovery in the event of catastrophic failure. The software must also work with the external backup solutions that they recommend (as per above).

Subject : Q & A
Question : 1. Student Netbook, please verify whether or not Bluetooth is mandatory or optional. The other mobile configurations all show this as an optional/but preferred item. 2. 12-13 ultralight, please confirm if the district is agreeable to a weight under 4.5lbs including standard battery weight. 3. Please verify that docking stations/port replicators/and USB docking stations are considered to be like terminology for all laptop configurations.
Answer : 1. On item 4 the student netbooks (Bluetooth is required), on item 6 (13-14 student mainstream, it is also required), optional but preferred is an invitation for those manufacturers to provide the functionality to the district at little to no cost. 2. The specification is for under four pounds so four pound and even one ounce would be considered out of specification and would be disallowed 3. Bidders solution should be a docking station with port replication that they personally manufacture or that they OEM. (In other words manufacturer of brand AA laptops should only offer brand AA docking stations the district will not accept for this item a third-party solution).
