1. We are looking at moving away from tape based backups and instead are requesting solid state solution (redundant or RAID-based hard-drive) based solutions. Because we realize that these solutions range from a couple hundred dollars to a few thousand (e.g. Connectivity via eSATA, Firewire, and FibreChanel and drives running 7200, 10K, 15K, of types SATA and SAS). Thus we are allowing for this bid for the birders to offer us three ( good, better, best) external backup solutions. Any solution offers must be able to work with the servers (e.g. if the solution requires a Fibre-Channel port, then the solution should include the necessary card (installed at no additional cost) for the server.)
2. The bidders may offer any solution that will exceed the backup features that are built into Windows Server 2008. The District has not adopted a single solution at school sites (though we have used VERITAS at the Core for some of our larger enterprise servers). The proposed software solution must allow for scheduling backups using IT standards such as daily, incremental, differential full, and have a mechanism for doing a complete recovery in the event of catastrophic failure. The software must also work with the external backup solutions that they recommend (as per above).
